A Bang-for-the-Buck White: Cavallina Grillo/Pinot Grigio

March 31, 2021 Posted by Ted McIntyre Wine No Comments

Yes, there are indeed quaffable white wines around the $10 mark, including this Italian blend.

Pellegrino Cavallina Grillo/Pinot Grigio 2018—Marsala, Italy ($10.15)
A surprisingly, pleasingly smooth texture shoves this blend of Pinot Grigio and Grillo (think of a bigger Grigio with attitude) into the middleweight white wine category. Quite well balanced for this price. Notes of Granny Smith apples, pears, melons, herbs and lemon meringue pie. A little vegetal on the palate, with just a hint of bitterness of the finish. 12.5% alc. Good patio sipper but with flexible food pairing ability. Super value. 87

About

Here at The Lush Life, we value the finer things in life. That can mean a $2,000-per-night resort suite in Fiji, but also an undervalued $15 bottle of Ontario Cabernet Franc. It can be an unforgettable round of golf in the winds of Northern Ireland with your closest friends, or a transcendental open-air, moonlit experience alone at a spa in Scottsdale. Whatever the experience, the reviews are honest, informative and, hopefully, fun to to read, watch and listen to. If you love great wine, travel and golf, this is the place. And we want The Lush Life to be interactive, so let us know what you think.
